Crawfishing: Part IV: How to store your live crawfish for a day or two?

Overnight preservation: You need to get an ice chest.

1. put a thin layer of LOOSE ice on the bottom of it; then...

2. add sacks of crawfish (not over packed) on top of the loose ice; then...

3. place a blanket or sheet or towel over the crawfish sacks, then...

4. wet it with a hose; then...

5. add light bags of ice (not too heavy) on top of the crawfish; then...

6. close the lid partially, but allow it to remain somewhat open for oxygen to exchange; and...

7. open the water drain spout to let water out as it evaporates…you do not want to drown the crawfish!

I have done this successfully to hold them over for at least one full night till the next day. They all remained alive…they just go into some form of hibernation mode. As soon as you remove the ice and spray warm water back on them, they liven up immediately! Watch out!
